Free Software for Only $30!

Over at Mozillazine headquarters, the editors decided to run a story about Linspire selling a box with free Firefox and OpenOffice (the free, Andkon-endorsed alternative to Microsoft Office) for $30. These overpriced cardboard containers will be sold at retail stores like Bestbuy and Fry's. The company's president (Kevin Carmony) decided to take the time from his busy day to actually respond to posts, at which point I attacked him for the company's completely idiotic plans. He never could really tell me why people wouldn't feel cheated once they find out that they've been sold free stuff, but oh well. I mean it's so hard to understood that perhaps selling free software is completely stupid when the products in question are simply downloaded, but then again everyone likes money so I made a commercial for Linspire around their brilliant concept of the $30 box:

By far the best explanation to why people would actually buy free software came from "dizzle" who said that some ISP's have bandwidth caps, meaning that downloading Firefox and OpenOffice could cost a capped individual a dollar. Apart from the fact that these caps are set to amazingly high limits like 5GB (which is more than enough for most users), "OH NO! A $1, BETTER RUN TO THE STORE AND BUY IT FOR $30!!!!!!!"
