How Stupid Can Mozilla Get?
Dec 06, 2004 @ 19:47Remember how Linspire is trying to sell boxes with free software? Well, it appears things have gone even more downhill. Mozilla is going to launch an ad in the New York Times, with about ten thousand names featured in the ad (all the people who donated).
To obese nerds who have nothing better to do and a dashingly handsome critic, this of course is not news, as this has been planned for weeks (and in fact it has been delayed). But what is news is that I saw a mockup for this, at least for a Dutch newspaper. (The point is that it's gonna look the similar in the New York Times.) Here it is:

Not to be outdone, German Firefox enthusiasts launched an even shittier ad:

Can somebody tell me why perhaps an ad that has tons of text isn't that great of an idea? Come on now, no need to have a marketing degree, just someone answer me... please? WHY THE FUCK DO THEY MAKE AN AD THAT LOOKS LIKE JUST ANOTHER PAGE IN THE NEWSPAPER? Jesus Christ! Even I can't satarize this worthless shit as it's a walking parody of itself. I can't think of a worse idea, short of printing the ad with white text. Maybe they should so at least they can save themselves from the embarrasment of looking incompetent. Of course, I'm guessing the brains behind this project was Mozilla's pubic relations firm, Sparkpr (as I don't want to think anyone could be so stupid within the actual Mozilla Foundation itself). Sparky's website boasts this quote: "Sparkpr's terrific industry insights, media contacts, make Sparkpr the #1 choice."
Yes, #1 choice for looking like a dipshit.
