In the beginning, my ideas and hopes were a formless void. All that changed with the website. While a definite point in the history of mankind can be known as the Beginning (June 25, 2002 at 6PM.), there were many culminating events prior to its grand launch. The single precursor to andkon.com was "Andras's World," a site I had on Angelfire. Begun a week after I got Internet access in the June 2001, I worked on it the entire summer between swim practices, which were obscenely held from 6AM to 9AM and then in the afternoon just for the hell of it.
The Precursor had two causes: The previous summer in 2000, I had a run-in with a former "pal" from middle school, we'll name Arrogant Douchebag though Arrogant Jackass would fit just as well. He wrote blatant lies about me on his website, so I decided that I needed to keep my own to straighten out the millions who were chronicly and viciously mislead. Also, there was a girl who had the biggest crush on me in the 8th grade. She would never leave me alone and I hated her. She once put some stuffed fox thing in my locker before I got to school and I was totally embarrassed when that thing flew out with a chocolate rose in its snout. Yeah, I didn't mind the part where she liked me, but I could do without the part where she was ugly and annoying. Unfortunatly both parts were permanent. I then decided to finally get her back by dedicating at least a part of the planned website to a hate page of her. I got some picture of her and drew a mustache and put some devil horns on it. It was so hilarious.
With defending my persona from further douchbags and revenge against old loves, http://www.angelfire.com/home/andras/ was born, albeit a year too late.
After that summer was over, I realized that the Angelfire site was too small and that I need a bigger playpen for my brain crushing ideas. I worked on/off the next year thinking about the site. English class for the most part was spent doodling new designs and thinking of fresh ideas.
In the summer of 2002, I had about a month after school ended to start up a new site. The name was Andkon.com, because andraskonya.com would have been a bit too long and not nearly as cool as ANDKON. So easy to pronounce, short, and sweet.
The site originally called for three sections: the arcade, a writings archive, and a tutorial on how to make websites. I had big ambitions as I wanted the arcade to be the best free arcade on the Internet, a provocative showcase of my writings, and a complete yet easy-to-understand HTML tutorial. While all the high-strung goals seemed to have not been met by that summer, the website clearly had a general sense of direction and plenty of ambition.
An entire year went by after the opening as andkon.com descended upon its now infamous Dark Age. Plagued by school and lack of large chunks of time, available minutes were wasted doodling new designs, designs that never escaped any notebook. A few articles were written, but the html tutorial spiraled down into oblivion and the arcade wasn't even remotely popular.
However, in the fall of 2003, the website seems to have embarked on a new adventure as the arcade is flooded with visitors. Perhaps a new chapter is starting to be written for Andkon.com...
